Fund credible, impactful and holistic nature, biodiversity and ecosystem conservation projects

In the expanse of South West Bengal (SWB), comprising four districts of West Bengal, a complex human-elephant conflict unfolds. Despite a modest elephant population of 180-200, the region is a hotspot for strife due to ecological and social factors.

The overall goal of this work is to eradicate invasive species thus establishing native biodiversity with the support of local indigenous tribes. This landscape is also the catchment of Kabini river in the Western Ghats an important tributary of river Cauvery.

A silent crisis unfolds as migratory birds, en route to their breeding grounds, fall prey to rampant poaching in west bengal. Through strategic interventions such as community engagement, surveillance, and enforcement coordination, this project aims to disrupt the illicit bird trade and safeguard critical habitats.

Despite its ecological significance, Phansad faces increasing anthropogenic pressures that endanger its unique biodiversity. In response to these challenges, GWT has launched a comprehensive conservation initiative aimed at protecting and restoring Phansad's natural heritage.

Amidst the lush Kanha Landscape, indigenous forest-dwelling communities were displaced by conservation efforts and forced to assimilate in new socio-economic systems. At EFF, we recognise the critical role that tribal communities play in land stewardship and forest protection and aim to empower them and enable a nature based economy.

In rural West Bengal, the prevalence of snakebite-induced fatalities has instilled fear and eroded social tolerance towards snakes, leading to widespread persecution that poses a significant conservation threat for nearly 100 snake species. Through extensive outreach programs and workshops, this project endeavors to enhance community knowledge of snakebite management and promote prompt treatment-seeking behavior.
